It is valued to some extent, but not as much as in fields like private equity. For real estate, they really want people who know the industry, the lingo, and so on. So if you can learn the finance and how to analyze deals, you could win RE PE roles.

I went to LSE, received an MSc in Real Estate Economics and Finance and recently got my MRICS and now working in a global RE services firm. I now know a lot more about other factions of CRE and REPE seems the most intellectually challenging and is what I’d ultimately like to pursue. From research, it seems that IB experience is valued which I do not have. I have 2+ years RE experience (agency, valuation, transaction management, investment due diligence) and I’m excellent at excel. Do you think there is a wide gap to cover considering my lack of “finance” experience to get into REPE??

I think it’s a good option straight out of undergrad if your long-term goal is real estate.

The RE PE fund is £100m and is focused on residential and commercial long dated income. The role is a support role as part of the acquisitions team. Straight out of undergrad.

No, sorry, I do not, but I would imagine that many of the larger funds there hire analysts.

Do you know which REPE funds have analyst schemes in the UK?

Thanks

We do not, but any of the other resume templates on the site also apply to RE PE… just use real estate terminology instead of “normal company” accounting/valuation terminology.

Yes, acquisition roles tend to be better. Within real estate, you almost always want to be on the acquisition/disposition side for core or core-plus properties because the upside/compensation is highest and the risk is lowest. And asset management is seen as more of a cost center. A hybrid role isn’t the end of the world, but it’s better to go for a dedicated acquisitions role if you can find one.
