I would probably just stay in that case unless you are so dissatisfied with the pay that you’re eager to leave right now. It might be worth it if the pay difference is substantial, i.e., 50%+, but probably not worth it for something like a 20% difference.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve been there about 2.5 years to date and I lateralled in from another career path. The hours and lifestyle are very good for banking but pay is below street

Sorry about that. I can’t really answer your question because I don’t know the context – how many years have you been there? Did you start as an Analyst right out of undergrad or move in from another career? And how bad is your current job in terms of hours/lifestyle?

Do you think I should grind this year out or move to a different bank?

It’s going to be extremely difficult, especially in the current environment in which it seems like it’s nearly impossible for anyone to leave Australia, let alone visa sponsorship elsewhere. Most smaller funds don’t have the resources to do it, and at the larger funds, you’re better off winning an offer locally first and then trying to transfer.

The usual, better option is to work in IB in a larger country first and stay there… of course, you once again run into the problem of not being able to leave Australia for the foreseeable future.

You mentioned that Australia doesn’t have many funds especially ones of size and scale when compared to the US for example (as a result more career bankers)… wondering if you know if US funds sponsor visas from Australia, if you come from a big 4 background or already work at a smaller fund and then try to move to a US fund?

Thanks for adding that. Yes, there are a lot of benefits to promotions in IB.

Doubled my comp and now I hit 285k as a 26 year old. Not bad for 55 hours per week with a great relationship with group head and MD in satellite office. WFH rocks let’s keep it going…

Unless you want to go into asset management for a long-term career, the CS IB offer is a better bet in almost all cases. An IB internship just gives you more options, and even if CS isn’t as good as it once was, it is still a bulge bracket bank. You shouldn’t really worry too much about the 10-year outlook because this is just an internship.

In BlackRock the role is that I am the intermediary between the investment teams and the sales teams to then feed back to clients. Not sure what to do as roles are very different but I am worried with everything happening with Credit Suisse now and its market sentiment. Also Blackrock is no.1 in its industry and Credit Suisse is not top for IB.

Also I am an international student so if I went IB-PE route, it will be limited as in this article you stated its hard for international students to get sponsored at PE firms due to limited spacing.

Any advice on which offer I should consider and especially CS’s sentiment in market now as students at my university keep saying negative stuff about it?
