I’m not sure what you mean by IB-related vs. “corporate banking coverage” – if you’re in investment banking, it’s investment banking. At some banks there is overlap between CB and IB, or the groups are combined, but that has more to do with the bank, not the specific industry group you’re in. Maritime shipping is fairly niche, and the experience may not translate well to other groups, but it depends on your deals as well. For a generalist coverage position, I would expect mostly market updates, some financial modeling/valuation for deals involving clients, and probably more time spent in PowerPoint than Excel.

Hi Brian, what can an intern expect in a shipping coverage position in a MM shop in mainland Europe? Are the duties usually IB-related, Corporate Banking coverage or a mix of both compared to US/UK where things as I understand are different?
