Coming from a target undergrad here. Would it be best to start an industry specific boutique for sports or TMT? Or should I start a BB/EB and switch over. The latter might help with sports PE exits I’m guessing.

Phenomenal read – I’m interested in pivoting into Sports Finance and this served as a great primer and 101 from some trusted industry experts. What sports would you say are the most exciting in terms of deal activity? Does it depend largely on geography? I would imagine major American sports are more actively seeking financing through American finance providers, whereas a larger array of sports would be looked at outside of the US (i.e. soccer/football, Formula One, Rugby, etc.).

Network extensively, use cold outreach, and maybe start out a larger firm because at the MBA level, you usually do not want to go directly to a boutique (for the reasons discussed here: https://mergersandinquisitions.com/mba-investment-banking-recruiting-process/).

Great article! Sports and finance are two of my passions and after reading this I am extremely interested in learning more and positioning myself to break into the industry. One quick question, as someone planning to pursue an MBA to pivot into IB from consulting, and with most of the players being smaller and more niche firms, what are the best ways to position myself to make joining a sports IB firm a possibility?
