“Monkeys” refers to other traders. For Long and Short, please see:

“Long” means you are betting the stock price (or other asset price) will increase, so you buy it and hope to sell it at a higher price. “Short” is the opposite, where you bet that it will fall, so you buy it at one price and hope to sell it at a lower price.

Would you explain the phrase ‘some of those monkeys are long and some of them are short’, I overheard it in a conversation with a currency dealer.

Haha. Not all bosses and team members appreciate “face-time.” Some actually want real work to be done and you to enjoy life & leave the office once you’re done w work (my boss was like that, but I was lucky enough to have had great bosses 95% of the time)

Sure, you can do that, though if they really are “tracking you down” they may still wonder where you went for an hour. I’d just go to the gym anyway. If they get annoyed by it you can explain yourself and how being healthy can actually contribute to the team and work something out. I’m sure they’ll understand and you guys can accommodate. You just need to work smart & demonstrate your worth.

So if your at the Gym but leave your belongings on the Desk does that still count as Facetime ?
