I’m not familiar with the sponsorship requirements in the UK, but I think you could probably find some type of off-cycle IB role with that much work experience (but it may not be the level you want).

I am currently working as an investment banking analyst at a small firm in my country (Mongolia). Investment banking, the concept is still considered new in my country and there are only a couple of investment banks operating here. I completed two years at Warwick Business School which is considered one of the best business schools in the UK. As you might know undergraduate courses are 3 years in the UK and I took a year off to take industrial placement at my current work. However, due to financial problem I had to take a year off again this year. The current workplace was happy to extend my work contract for another year. So next year I will have to finish my last year and find a decent paying job in the UK as the salary is very low of where I am from. So my question is with two years of investment banking analyst experience, WBS degree (2:1 grade), international background do you think it would be easy or hard to land a job in the UK? As companies have to sponsor me in order to let me stay in the UK?

Kind regards,

Career? No. University? It depends on what you mean and what you’re studying. If you want to complete courses such as calculus and beyond (multivariable, differential equations, linear algebra, PDE, etc.), then yes, you may struggle with university courses if you dropped math now.

I’m an Australian highschool senior planning out my way into an IB career. The pathways are pretty much identical.
I’ve dropped maths as a subject, which comes as a shock to many people after I tell them I want to be an Investment Banker. I’m not bad at maths, I’m proficient with arithmetic, algebra and financial maths all formulas you’d come across in high school. Do you think I’d struggle with maths in University and eventually in my career because I haven’t studied higher levels in High School?

Your articles are great!

Cheers

It’s a good school, but probably more of a semi-target. It has fairly good placement on the west coast but less in other regions, and I’m not sure how much IB / consulting recruiting really takes place there (though a few students probably get in each year).

Thank you for writing this article. I am a sophomore at Claremont McKenna College (a top liberal arts school well-known for Finance). I was wondering if it’s a target for Investment Banking on the West Coast, particularly LA (as that’s where it’s located).
