Agreed. Yes, people are stupid. I think western countries are pretty much doomed, but that’s another story…

I was starting to think all of mankind turned into retarded apes (some self proclaimed mind you) after the stupid shit l’ve been reading in the past month. The conspiracy theories are so absurd and are a result of a cult mentality that is developing online. But we know how most cults end. 1. the followers are told by the cult leader to surrender all their earthly possessions for the cause (the mighty short squeeze) 2. They follow him blindly not letting go of their “diamond hands”.
3. The leader keeps them secluded (wallstreetbets) so he can brainwash them and prevent real world logic from creeping in (actual fundamentals). 4. The cult leader realizes its game over. He’s about to be exposed aka no one Short squeeze to rule them all . 5. Mass suicide.

Thanks, but it’s probably not going to happen because this type of article, while “fun,” doesn’t generate sales and is outside the core focus of this site. Also, I’m not sure there is much more to say on the topic for now.

I don’t know, I have not been following this story since late January / early February. It’s not a core focus of this site.

Yes, that is a problem as well. I’m 100% certain that no one in the federal government actually understands this issue, except for maybe a few people at the SEC.

GameStop fell ~80% from its peak. And then it rose again, and now it’s trading at a higher level. And it will fall again. So what? Anyone who bought at the peak still lost money. That’s how meme stocks work – people get excited, start buying at irrational prices, and then lose when it crashes. Not sure where anyone said that GameStop would “die” or “stop trading” unless you interpreted this article incorrectly.

But the largest story here is the same as it has been for decades… the naked shorting of shares that artificially dilute a comapnies stock, allowing hedgefunds to drive companies out of business and, here’s the key point, owe no capital gains taxes on those short positions that never have to be closed. The short positions were never “closed out”. The 21-day allowance given by the SEC allows the short positions to be kicked down the road contiuously, as well as being able to hide short positions in EFT’s and by collusion with market makers in puts. When artificial supply is introduced into any market, the price will fall. When the SEC allows this practice to continue without transparency as to the number of fake shares in existence, the retail traders and targeted compaies will always be at a dissadvantage. Most media is either colluding (CNBC) with this entrenched big money system or don’t have the guts to expose it.
